herbal tea main

It’s fun to make your own blend of herbal tea and easy, just use different combinations of fresh herbs, dried herbs, dried spices, dried flowers, and citrus rinds for a delicious homemade herbal tea.  Get creative or try some of the suggestions in this recipe. 


Filtered water or Spring water

Variety of fresh herbs, dried herbs, spices, citrus rinds

Unsweetened nut milk:  almond, coconut, cashew – optional

*Sweetener:  100% liquid Stevia or Stevia powder from the natural food store


Coconut or Palm Sugar – both have a fairly low glycemic index

DIRECTIONS:  add a variety of fresh herbs, dried herbs, spices, and citrus rinds to filtered or Spring water in a tea pot or a pan.  Bring water to a boil and boil for 3-5 minutes until the flavors are released.  Remove from heat and continue steeping until water cools enough to drink.  Strain into mugs.

Use the combintaions below or get creative and experiment with your own flavors.  Use unsweetened coconut, almond, or cashew milk in place of cream for a dairy-free option.  If you like sweetened tea, use 100% liquid Stevia from the natural food store for a sugar-free option.

NOTE:  big commercial brands of Stevia are processed with harmful chemicals and contain fillers.


Fresh lavender bud and vanilla beans.  Grow your own lavender or buy a plant and cut off the buds, slice the vanilla bean lengthwise, add some of the seeds from one half of the bean pod and some of the lavender buds and steep.

Dried star anise, 2-3 cloves, and 1 cinnamon stick, add to water before you boil.

Fresh peeled, sliced ginger and lemon peel, wash lemon well before peeling and add to water before boiling.  Boil 10-15 minutes then strain and serve.

Orange peel, wash orange well before peeling and add it to water with a cinnamon stick before you boil.  Or try dried apples and a cinnamon stick.

Fresh spearmint or peppermint.  Add fresh mint leaves to water before boiling.  Strain and serve.

Fresh spearmint or peppermint.  Add to water before boiling then mix in raw cacao powder and strain.

Add cacao powder to boiling water and add a dash of chili pepper powder then strain and serve.

Boil a cinnamon stick in water then add a little chili pepper powder, strain and serve.

Dried chamomile buds and dried berry leaves mix, find at the health food store in the organic spice bin section.

Dried raspberry leaves and lemon peel.  Boil lemon peel with water then add raspberry leaves and steep 5 minutes.

Fresh pineapple sage leaves and flowers.  Add them to boiling water and steep for 5-10 minutes.

Fresh holy basil leaves.  Add to boiling water and steep for 5-10 minutes.

Dried fennel seeds added to the water before boiling.

Fresh, sliced lemon grass boiled in water is great, boil in water for 10-15 minutes, strain and float a slice of lemon on top of your cup.
